Clearly Besotted, Papertrey Ink and MFT Christmas card

Hello everyone and welcome to my final post with the Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge.

I've really learned a lot about mixed media over the past year, and have enjoyed trying to adapt it to my style of cardmaking, but I want to try something else for 2017. Thank you to Kylie and the Design Team for all the helpful tips you gave me! The theme this time is anything goes, and as I'm still trying to add to my Christmas card pile, I came up with this card.

I was inspired by a demonstration that Sheena Douglas gave to try this technique. I began with a square of kraft card, and glued several My Favorite Things die cut leaves in one corner.

I then painted some coats of Gesso over the whole thing, allowing it to dry in between coats. I was going for some texture on the surface rather than getting it smooth.

My Gansai Tambi watercolours came out and I used a couple of shades of green and some brown paint to cover the whole surface, finishing off with some dry brushing to keep the texture. When it was dry, I stamped the Papertrey Ink sentiment and added some gilding wax around the edge of the card. I stamped, die cut and shaped a Clearly Besotted Ponsettia, arranged it on top of some more white foliage, and  added some gold micro beads to the centre of the flower.

I matted the panel with some black card and added it to the base card, before scattering some little dots of gilding wax to finish off.

Why not head over to the Happy Little Stampers Blog to see some more inspiration from my talented team mates and join in with us this time. Kylie, the owner of Happy Little Stampers is welcoming the festive season with a 12 Days of Christmas Challenge and you can enter your Christmas cards over there too!

This is so pretty Carol!! I love that you showed photos of your process. I have never used Gesso on a card before and might have to give it a try. It is a neat effect!!
