Sue Wilson and Papertrey Ink birthday card

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and enjoying what the new year is bringing to you. I'm sorry not to have been posting much lately, but lots of things have been getting in the way and I hadn't realised how long it had been until I got an email from the sweet Darnell asking where the heck I was! Truth be told, I have been having a great big clear out and reorganise in my craft room, and once I had made a great big mess, I got overwhelmed and had the January blahs for a few days before I got my backside into gear and sorted it out. Not that it is all sorted yet because I still have half of it to do, but as I will have to empty the room completely in a few months for some maintenance and redecoration, the more stuff I can sort out now, the better it will be for me later.

If you come by regularly you will know that I have been dipping my toe into the mixed media world. Only my toe you note, because it still scares me big time to be out of my comfort zone of CAS cards. I decided that I should try more different styles of card this year so I produced this little number with a much fancier design than I am accustomed to.

I started by making the background frame, using a square die in a panel of hibiscus burst card from Papertrey Ink. Then I embossed some white card with a chevron embossing folder from Embossalicious, and placed it behind the frame. I got a stamp and die set by Sue Wilson for Christmas, so I gave it a first outing next. The die set is the Lisbon die set from the Portuguese Collection, and I cut two of the plain layering dies in white and the fancy large die in pink. I layered the pink over the white and fixed it vertically to the card with some foam tape.

I stamped the co-ordinating Floribunda stamp onto the other white layer and coloured it with Copic markers before adding horizontally it to the card. For the greeting I used the PTI You've been framed; oval stamps and die. I stamped in pink and black then went around the edge of the oval with a black pen so it didn't get lost on the background. Looking at the pictures I can see that the pink looks different in the photographs for some reason - probably the grey days have affected the lighting but the last picture is a more accurate representation!

So there it is - maybe not as fancy as some. It has no ribbons, stick pins or bunches of flowers glued on, but I think I can say my toe has been dipped!

I'd like to take the card and play along with

Thanks for stopping by

Hugs
Carol x

So pretty and good job with all the layering. That's something I struggle with. You've done a great job and I LOVE those pretty flowers ... great colouring! Congrats on getting 1/2 way through your sorting. I started that too (I think a lot of crafters have good intentions at the beginning of a new year) ... but mine quickly faded and I'm back to my royal mess. :) There's always tomorrow, right??!! :) xx

Carol,
I totally understand, it is a little tough to go outside what we are used to. I think you did a great job of it on this card! Love the chevron, the frame and design. Very lovely. Thank you for joining us this time at Crafty Cardmakers.

I did see this when you posted it, Carol, but have only now had a minute to come and tell you how much I love your outofthebox beautiful card! You may not do layers often, but you certainly have a good eye for layout when you do! Each detail goes so well together and I adore that hibiscus PTI color! And thank you for the shoutout. I did miss you, but I totally understand how horrendous the upheaval is when you do a major gut of the craft room. Good luck with finishing it. As you say, it will make your life easier down the road! Hugs, Darnell
