Altenew Plentiful Pine Christmas card

Hello everyone and welcome to the first Happy Little Stampers Christmas Challenge of the year. If you are joining us for the first time, we are an anything goes as long as it's Christmas challenge, but each month we have a fun twist that you can use to give yourself some inspiration or step outside of your comfort zone. Our first optional twist is 'trim the tree' and I cheated a bit because I don't think these lovely layered trees need any trimming so I left them completely bare!

This design is particularly useful for mass production and is fairly flat for cheaper posting. I don't know about you but I was completely shocked at the total I paid for postage last year and I must be more mindful when I make cards throughout 2020. Such a shame because I love lots of dimension on cards!

As one of my crafty resolutions is to practice more with layered stamps, I used the Altenew Plentiful Pine stamp set for the trees, and the sentiment is from an old Papertrey Ink set called Trimming the Tree. I don't have the dies for this stamp set so I tried cutting them out with my Scan n Cut. I think it did a pretty good job but I've signed up for an Udemy course and hopefully, I'll get better at using it. I used the PTI Canvas and Linen Impression plate on the panel for some texture and inked around the edge to help it stand out on the card in the absence of a mat.

Why not pop over to the HLS Blog to see lots of inspiration from the team?

I'd like to play along at

Thanks for stopping by

Hugs
Carol x

We're thinking alike, Carol! I sent very few Christmas cards that needed extra postage this year & plan to make even less this year. I'm finding you can make things interesting & beautiful without being thick--like you did here with the dry embossing & inking the edge of the panel. I do miss my bows & pearls, though! These trees truly did not need trimming!

Oh this is stunning and what a great card for making a few for posting out to friends!! I only sent a few this year due to soaring costs :(. I dont think your trees needed any decor, they look brilliant as nature intended, Thanks for sharing with me on Fezziwigs Festive Frolics, Love Hazel xx

Hello Carol, just popping over from Fezziwigs Festive Frolics as you are the entry before mine. Ha, great minds think alike as I have entered a tree card as well. I too was shocked at the postage costs especially as I went and did the weekly grocery shop straight after and it cam to £3 less than in the post office!! I have a few of Altenew stamps and love the way the colours layer up. I must remember to try and use a colour on my sentiments too instead of inking up in black all the time. The red really stands out on your card. Hugs ValeryAnne. p.s. Found a new challenge too so off to link up. thanks for the nod.

You do Altenew's layer stamps so well. Those trees look luscious and alive. Your 2019 cards were awesome as well, especially your son's turntables card. Wow! I know what you mean about wanting to make cards with some dimension. I finally gave up and just bought some bubble mailers and let myself make so many at $3.50 a pop postage package rate - gah! Every one of my flat cards needed an extra ounce stamp too. Oh well, that's their card AND present! hahaha xoxo

I agree with you Carol, those layered trees are beautiful and your touches of red make the card lovely and festive! Also I'm getting that lovely excited feeling you get when you first bring the tree in before the decorations and lights go on! Vicky x
